A little bit of History
Built in 1897 by the Coventry family on the slope of the Thaba Nyama mountain range, next to Spioen Kop. The house was used as quarters by the Boer Kommando's on Louis Botha's right flank in 1899 during the 118-day siege of Ladysmith from where the Boer defenses in the Tugela ridge were conducted. The basement was being used as an arms stash during the War, and fresh horses were kept for the outriders in the stables.
After the Seige was lifted, and Ladysmith relieved the same house was used as British quarters by Gen.Sir George White.
When walking through this lovingly restored house one can imagine the many stories that have been created in the surrounds. The hills and house bring about a sense of being, and always leave one with a smile. Let the beauty & tranquillity of the surroundings uplift your mood and recharge your spirits.
